Exam seasons can make even confident students feel brittle. At The Clavier Studio we treat the final weeks as a polish phase — not a panic phase. Pieces should already be learned; what remains is security, musicality and nerves that know how to breathe.
What belongs in the last three weeks
Run full performances under gentle pressure: for a parent, a sibling, or into a phone recording. Practise entering the room, adjusting the stool, and starting without a long silence. Scales and aural work in short daily bursts — ten minutes is enough if it’s every day.
- One “exam run” of all pieces, twice a week
- Technical work at a steady tempo, not a race
- Sleep and food treated as part of preparation
What parents can leave to us
You don’t need to become a second teacher. Avoid drilling wrong notes at home without guidance — habits stick fast. Do keep the calendar clear the day before, bring water, and speak about the exam as a performance opportunity, not a verdict on worth.
Trinity and ABRSM, same studio calm
Whether your child is on a Trinity or ABRSM path, the emotional job is the same: arrive prepared enough to enjoy showing what they can do. Marks matter; a lifelong relationship with music matters more.
If you’re deciding when to enter, talk to us in a lesson — we’ll be honest about readiness. Or reach out and we’ll map a timeline that protects both progress and joy.
